MEDITATIONS ON FORM, SPACE AND BEING

Ángel Aragonés continues to hone his craft of inventing spaces in which author and viewer are fused through the act of meditation as mediation. We are thrown into a symbolic, graphic world that we are challenged to interpret through a rigorous reflection on mental pictures visualized in acrylic on linen. These iconic chasms constitute the templum of his and our contemplation, a space for auguries and insights. Aragonés's pictorial representations invite us into the dark chambers of the artist's inner being, and those chambers are eerily decorated with pieces of art that portentously depict the many layers of ourselves.

Aragonés brings together structures, shapes, and spaces that invoke meditation, not only on the paintings themselves, but also on the very act of thought. He asks us to ruminate upon these same spaces by penetrating his works of art, which symbolize that bottomless pit that we call being. We stand in the artist's templum, which has been decorated with graphic representations designed to lead us beyond the shadows of mere form. In this most recent exhibition of Ángel Aragonés's work, meditation is the message, and the medium is the method.
